VENUE

Platbos is a botanically unique forest and a rare and endangered ecosystem – Indigenous forests cover less than 0.05% of the Western Cape Province. Only 0.5% of the entire land surface of South Africa is forested today.

Platbos is Africa’s southernmost indigenous forest with trees estimated to be over one thousand years of age. It is a relic, remnant forest.

The forest is home to many indigenous creatures such as the Honey Badger, the elusive Leopard and the endangered Leopard Toad amongst many others. Help us preserve their home and learn about the natural world at Reforest Fest! Since 2011, over 55,000 trees have been re-planted here, and this March we are aiming for many more!

ACCOMMODATION

Pitch your tent (or rent one from us) and sleep under the stars.

We welcome happy campers with open arms and a space in the general camping area is included in your festival ticket. Find your favourite spot, pitch your tent and rest easy.

There are also multiple alternative accommodation options available on neighbouring farms and near Platbos forest. We give you the option of upgrading your experience with the following tickets:

  • Traveller Tent (2 Pax) – R650: Not so keen on setting up your own tent? The Traveller Tent is a canvas safari tent that comfortably sleeps two people, and includes two camping mattresses. You must bring along your own bedding and pillow.
  • Camper Van Parking – R100: Interested in bringing along your Camper Van? Purchase this ticket to get access to the Camper Van Parking area. Due to limited space, without a Camper Van Parking ticket, you will not be allowed to park in this area and will have to park in the main parking area.

DIRECTIONS

Situated close to Hermanus, Platbos forest is an easy 2.5-hour drive from Cape Town. Don’t miss out on the incredible farm stalls along the way!

Remember you might be arriving in the dark on Friday evening, so be sure to read these directions carefully and have them on hand.

  • From Cape Town, take the N2 highway towards Hermanus.
  • Take the Hermanus turn off and go directly into Hermanus town. Drive through Hermanus town towards Stanford on the R43.
  • On the R43 road from Stanford to Gansbaai, look out for the Grootbos turn off on your left-hand side, approximately 12km after passing Stanford town. (If you get to Gansbaai you have gone too far)
  • Turn left at the Grootbos turn off and travel for just over 6km along this tar, and then gravel, road (do not turn into the actual Grootbos Estate).
  • Just before the 6km mark, you will see a turn off over a cattle grid on your right-hand side, and a wooden sign, ‘Platbos Forest’. This entrance to the forest is CLOSED for Festival goers. Please do not turn up this road as you cannot gain access to the Fest from here.
  • Continue along the road you are on, following the Greenpop signboards and flags. Turn right onto the entrance road (marked with Greenpop sign boards) immediately after you have passed the Platbos entrance.
  • Follow the signs until you come to the Festival Entrance.
